2008 Design Challenge:  Initial Challenge

TQP members are issued a design challenge annually.  Past challenges have included Blooming Nine Patch, Totally Tubular, Judy's Block Challenge, and Jasmine's Palace fabric Challenge.  This year, the challenge was to use colors representing the letters in your name...."The Color of Your Initials".  The challenge rules were written by Judy Laquidara and can be seen here.  Basically the players had to use 3 first initials from their names to choose colors for their quilt.

Judy later agreed to allow us to use a different color for the background.

Here are some of the results.  I say they did a great job!

Koz

J-Just lt Blue, J-Jazzy steel blue, K-Kiwi Lime

Pat B..

PYB parsley, yellow, blue

Disappearing Nine Patch

Pat says:

"My quilt was made with P Parsley green, Y yellow, and B blue.

I had wanted to do a disappearing ninepatch from all the chatter on
here so I figured out from the pictures the base unit and used my EQ6
to design two different quilts. A small one for my guild donation
quilt and a larger one to give to my nephew's new born son.
I loved the way the green yellow and blue looked so then went searching for
color names that fit my initials.

I loved making the disappearing ninepatch and will definately make
another one.

Susan aka PatchKat

S=Salmon, K=Khaki, N=Navy

Susan Says:

"I did a very utilitarian checkerboard pattern.  It's a little larger than
normal lap size quilts and will have the same plaid as part of the
backing/binding."

Kelly Cullen

Kelly Green, Adobe (Brown), Crocus (Purple) - Marcia Hohn Pattern

Janet P.

Lapis, Peridot, Jelly, Kona White

Janet says:  "I used the pattern from Marcia Hohn's site: Squares within Squares 2.  I put a 1 inch sashing with cornerstones between the blocks and kept the cornerstones the same color as the outer block color (if that makes sense).  I have the same amount of blocks of each color combination (6 of 6).  I want to make the binding alternating with the colors, just haven't gotten it quilted yet, so will see.

Marilyn

M -My Pink M-Milk Punch P-Prussian Blue

Marilyn says:

I chose the names of my quilt --My Pink, Milk Punch and Prussian Blue--off one of the links that were posted when the challenge was announced.  The pattern is BQ--which I purchased in Louisiana!  This quilt will go on the bed once it's quilted!

Margaret

M Marigold Yello - K Kobi - B Blue Chill

Margaret chose her colors using a link someone posted to the group.
The quilt was a pattern called Spin Pin she tested for the Wondercut
Ruler gals.
Margaret says:
"I picked it because it only had three colors, like we needed, and I was
going to make it to test the pattern. I finished it in the Spring and I do
not hold on to quilts, so it was sent to Denise in June for an MOH"
Denise (DMR)

Denim, Maize, Ruby Red

Hmmmm....where's that quilt Denise?   ☺☺
Shelley

Anita

Anita's quilt is still in the thinking stage.  :-)

Gunilla

Grey, I-Indian red, W-White

Gunilla plans to make a Drunkard's Path design with her fabrics.
